We’re hiring!

We are looking for an experienced gardener/grower to join our small team in April.

Are you a professional gardener who loves cut flowers and wants to work in a beautiful walled garden in East Lothian?

The role will be based at our walled garden just outside Pencaitland (approximately 30 minutes drive from Edinburgh) and is part time 16-24 hours per week during the growing season, April to November. Hourly rate dependent on experience.

We have approximately two acres of cut flower production to manage and maintain.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planting and plant health

  • Maintenance and care

  • Developing new growing space

  • Ground care- weeding and composting

  • Watering and feeding

  • Pruning, dead heading and grass cutting

  • Cut flower harvesting

  • Record keeping and processing

  • Assisting with local deliveries (by car)

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least three years professional/employed gardening experience (this is a must have)

  • Excellent horticultural knowledge

  • Crop production experience

  • Knowledge of cut flowers and enthusiasm to learn more

  • A full clean driving license

  • Excellent health and fitness with positive disposition

  • Good communication skills

  • Self motivation with good time management skills and the ability to work independently

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Flexibility to work in the evenings and weekends as required for summer cropping

And last by not least, a passionate flower lover with a positive 'can do' attitude and good smart phone photography and social media skills would be a big bonus!

Ability to reach the PYRUS garden (EH34) independently of public transport is essential, the role requires early starts and the nearest rural bus line does not adequately service us.

Closing date for applications April 4th, position starting mid April. Please email Fiona at studio@pyrusbotanicals.com with your CV and tell us why you would be perfect for the job!
