Moth Breakfast

£18.00
sold out

Join local ecologist and moth expert, Katty Baird, to discover more about the fascinating world of moths.

August sees the garden brimming with life, even more so when someone shows it to you. Light traps will be left out in the walled garden overnight to hold these amazing little creatures long enough for us to find out more about which species live here and in the surrounding area. Depending on the weather, we should enjoy an inspiring variety of shapes and colours - over 50 different species are not unusual at this time of year!

Moths can get fidgety on a sunny, summers morning so we will start the day early. Over a delicious, seasonal breakfast and expectational coffee from our local roasters Hometown, you will be able to see the moths close up, with ample of opportunity for photos and discussion. We will learn more about their natural history and how to help in their conservation in our own gardens. If time allows we will explore the wild flower meadow and learn how to identify some of our wider pollinator community.

Katty is a long-term volunteer for Butterfly Conservation and is involved in a number of moth projects in and around East Lothian. She has written the book, Meetings with Moths, describing some of her adventures surveying moths around Scotland. Katty has a wealth of knowledge and experience, making this breakfast workshop an exceptionally special start to the day.
